On February 18–19, 2025, a scientific workshop organized by MELODI (Multidisciplinary European Low Dose Initiative) was held in Rome, focusing on the effects of ionizing radiation on the central nervous system (CNS). The event brought together researchers from around the world, fostering productive discussions and interdisciplinary exchange.
Key topics addressed during the workshop included medical exposure strategies, emerging challenges in brain irradiation, cancer and non-cancer effects, neuroinflammation, and the impact of space radiation on the CNS. A central aim of the workshop was to lay the groundwork for the development of comprehensive review articles that reflect the current state of knowledge in these areas.
The MEENAS webinar on Wednesday, July 9, 16:00 CEST, aims to present the main outcomes and highlights from the workshop discussions, providing insight into MELODI’s perspective on the biological effects of low-dose radiation on the brain and identifying future research priorities.
Please find the programme below, and we’d be pleased if you could join us on July 9 to discuss the important insights and outcomes.
