The 11th edition of the International Euratom research and training conferences on fission safety of the reactor systems (FISA) and radioactive waste management (EURADWASTE) will take place on 12–16 May 2025 in Warsaw. Its organisation will be under the auspices of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU together with the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ), the Sustainable Nuclear Energy Technology Platform (SNETP), the European Nuclear Education Network (ENEN), the European Nuclear Society (ENS), and the European Nuclear Society – Young Generation Network (ENS-YGN).
The main objectives of these high-level policy conferences are to present progress and key achievements of the key Euratom research and training projects implemented since 2022 and stimulate discussions on recent technological nuclear research and innovations; key national, European and international challenges and opportunities; partnerships; and the European Alliance on Small Modular Reactors; as well as exploring future perspectives.
The event will be an opportunity to engage with all relevant stakeholders: research and training organisations, academia, young generation, industry, small and medium enterprises, spin-offs and start-ups, national and European policy makers, national government officials, European technology platforms, technical support organisations, European fora, European civil society and international organisations e.g., IAEA, OECD/NEA or WNA.
The call for proposals for the Nuclear Innovation Prizes is now open. The 9 winning entries will have the opportunity to showcase their work and innovations in this edition through a dedicated paper. The contest aims to identify and recognize disruptive innovations across the entire product development and supply chain, from research to market, where researchers and engineers play a pivotal role.
The research community is also invited to submit abstracts that demonstrate original research activities in the nuclear sector, particularly in the areas of reactor systems, radioprotection, and radioactive waste management. Priority will be given to the work of young researchers and PhD students, emphasizing the importance of promoting the next generation within the nuclear research community. While abstracts may relate to co-funded EC projects, they should not be redundant or strictly cover the scope of an existing Euratom co-funded action.
Submitted abstracts will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Originality and replicability
- Technical excellence
- Economic impact and potential for innovation exploitation
Authors of selected abstracts will be notified and granted the opportunity to either draft a full paper or to submit a poster, detailing and showcasing their research.
All abstracts are to be sent before the Oct. 15. More information can be found on the conference website.
