It is with a profound sadness that the EURAMED Executive Board announces the unexpected passing of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Dörr, EURAMED Secretary, at the age of 59 last Saturday, October 12, 2019.
During his long and distinguished career, Prof. Dörr was a tireless practitioner and advocate of radiobiological research. For more than 30 years, he was involved in the theoretical and practical training of biologists, physicians, veterinarians, dentists, and medical physicists in the field of radiation biology, by providing engrossing lectures and close supervision of pertinent research projects. He was an author on more than 320 journal publications and served as an editor for numerous books and international research journals. In 2015, he was appointed Professor of Applied and Translational Radiobiology at the Medical University of Vienna, the first university professorship for radiation biology in Austria.
He served as ESTRO’s representative in the EURAMED Executive Board and had been dutifully committed to advancing multidisciplinary radiation protection research from the beginning of EURAMED’s activities.
The EURAMED Executive Board would like to pass on our most heartfelt condolences to all his friends and family. He will be sorely missed by us all.
